What is the Purpose of Laminate Flooring Underlayment?

Laminate flooring underlayment goes underneath laminate flooring.  There are many different styles to fit the needs of anyone who is installing new floors.  The many purposes of flooring underlayment are sound blocking, moisture protection and cushioning.

If you are installing laminate flooring, then it is vital that you have a good underlayment placed before you install it.  One of the main reasons for this is to keep the sound of walking on the floors down.  This is especially true if you are installing a hard wood laminate floor.

When you walk on hard wood, it can be very loud.  If you own a condominium that is upstairs of another neighbor, or if you are installing the flooring in an upstairs bedroom, you will appreciate this muffling of the floor as will your neighbors downstairs.

If you have an issue with dampness in your home, then you really must have laminate flooring underlayment down before you install the flooring.  This will help protect your flooring from becoming damaged from the moisture. 

This is particularly true for those who live in moister climates such as Florida.  If you do not protect against moisture then you stand a chance of your flooring becoming moldy.  Mold is not good for your family so any way that you can eliminate the risk of it is best.

Finally, there is nothing more uncomfortable than standing for long periods on a hard floor that has no cushion.  You may need to spend a good deal of time standing when you are cooking so you want to have as much cushioning for your feet as possible. These are but a few of the reasons that flooring underlayment is necessary when laying a laminate floor.
